Mike Smith is a Nationally Board Certified Hearing Instrument Specialist and has been with Hearing Unlimited since 1987. He holds a B.A. in Business Administration from William Penn University. Mike is a member of the Iowa Association of Hearing Health Professionals and the International Hearing Aid Society.
He has been selected by both Governors Branstad and Vilsack to serve on the Iowa Hearing Aid Dispensers Licensing Board and is a Past-President of the Iowa Hearing Association. He was recently voted “Best Hearing Instrument Specialist” in Story County by the readers of the Ames Tribune for the second year in a row.
What he enjoys most about working at Hearing Unlimited is helping people get back the communication skills they have lost and get them back into life. Mike said, “Unlike most in this profession, I fit people, not hearing aids.” He is interested in hearing conservation and makes custom earplugs right in his office. Not only does Mike take care of hearing needs in Ames, but also in offices in Clarion and Jefferson as well.
Mike lives near Gilbert, IA with his two children. When Mike is not working, you can find him hunting and fishing.
Kathleen Meier, HIS
Hearing Instrument Specialist
Kathy joined Hearing Unlimited as a staff hearing aid dispenser in 1994. As an experienced, trained and licensed professional, she takes 16 hours of continuing education classes annually along with specialized manufacturer training. She is a member of the Iowa Association of Hearing Health Professionals. “My intent is to put the patient in charge of their hearing loss and how they wish to improve their communication. I will never pressure a patient, only present to them all of the available options on an individualized basis. I will never tell you what to do, I will only give you options and let you make the decision.” Kathy serves patients in the Ankeny and Ames offices.
Hi, my name is Celia or Ceci as most call me. I am originally from California and made the big move to Iowa with 3 of my 4 children over the summer of 23′. So far we are enjoying it, but we’ll see how our first winter goes. In my free time I like to spend time with my kiddos and find new fun places to explore.
I have been in the medical field for 12+ years working in both in-patient and outpatient facilities as a phlebotomist. My experience in this field has strengthened my compassion and empathy towards my patients and gave me the ability to understand patients on a different level. I am also working on my Associates degree in Health Science to further my knowledge. Although I am new to the hearing aid industry, I am certain that this shift in careers will be a positive one. And I am excited to see what the future holds.
